In February 2023 I found a blue and white plate in a charity shop in Darlington. Delicate with a lovely pattern both sides, sadly it was badly cracked and in a box marked last chance, due to be recycled.
I gently clipped the plate to create shards. These dangle earrings are made from the rim, similar in shape and pattern. I was able to drill a hole and sand smooth edges and backs. Sides and backs sealed with non toxic eco friendly sealant, front glaze intact, back glaze partially in tact.
The idea is to keep the character of the ceramic found, the finished piece is not meant to be highly polished or perfect. Instead retain part of the character of the original ceramic.
Found by chance in a box in Darlington destined to be recycled, once a pretty plate destined to be thrown away, now a small pair of earrings. One of a kind, unique and eye catching.
Each Earring measure approximately 32mm x 10mm (widest) x 2mm.
