I love collecting anything broken, lost or found by chance. A small patch of ground beside the River Tees gets boggy and drenched during heavy rains. The downpours expose all sorts of broken pot, glass, bits of pipes and wonderful oyster shells.
I found a piece of ceramic, triangle with a lovely green pattern with a blue line. The shape suggested it would make a great pendant so after a thorough clean I drilled a hole. Sadly the shard broke but chanced drilling 2 holes to hopefully create earrings. Thankfully the ceramic survived the drill and I made these long earrings, I decided to make the holes a bit bigger to allow for the shards to move on the wires.
The front glaze intact, back is sanded smooth and sealed with eco friendly matt sealant. There are marks and small indentations, this is the make up of the material.
The idea is to create something new from old, re-use ceramic found but keep its original character. The finished item is not meant to be perfect or highly polished.
Unique, full of history, found by chance and re-created into earrings.
Each earring measures approximately 32mm x 6mm x 2mm.
Approximate full drop 45mm.
