In my view, elegant, pleasing to the eye and tactile, but that’s just my opinion. This very shallow platter was intended to be both a practical piece and also to create interest and possible discussion.
Made from Canadian maple, oak, mahogany and ash. The pieces are of various sizes and shape and together form an elegant slim platter with shallow hollowing on the top and fine edges to the rim. The platter highlights the differing grains and colour of the various woods used and being reasonably large in diameter and shallow in depth gives a very elegant appearance.
First, I planed the pieces, cutting two to irregular shapes then jointed them all together. When completely cured the piece was turned on the lath and slowly it began to take shape, very pleasing.
The platter is finished with numerous coats of Danish oil giving a durable satin finish. Please do not immerse the platter in water but wipe with a damp cloth and buff with a clean duster.
