A bowl is a bowl, but I think this is a particularly attractive design. Made from I believe, White poplar. The tree had fallen in high wind, I cut some of the trunk into sections that would allow me to turn on the lathe in the ‘green’. The bowl was cut to rough shape first and allowed to dry after which the final turning and shaping was done. The timber is showing early signs of spalting, a form of wood coloration caused by fungi which gives the unique coloration and patterns often sought after. The outside of the bowl has a pleasing convex shape which is mirrored on the inside with a concave shape.
