About
Working with wood is my hobby. Usually I only make one item, taking my time and amending design as I go until I feel satisfied with the end product. I would not consider the items to be of an absolutely perfect standard as would be expected from manufactured goods but of a good standard and completely acceptable within the home environment.
I work from a small home workshop in Essex on the outskirts of London using both hand and machine skills developed over time. Where possible I use reclaimed wood and if suitable, timber from fallen trees for bowl turning. Wood from newly fallen trees would be turned 'green' to the rough shape then allowed to dry before final shaping and finishing. This allows tensions within the timber to relax and help reduce later movement within the finished piece. Recently I made a console table incorporating steam bent oak, my first attempt and a really interesting project but my wife said she wanted to keep it, now that is a compliment! Something I must try again soon. The console table was made from a very good but no longer serviceable oak fire surround and as with nearly all my pieces I recycle wood in the best way possible but at times the inherent past can still be evident in the new item.
This is a new venture working with Crafters Market UK and I will be adding further items to the site soon so please bear with me.
I hope my products will be of interest and would welcome comments or questions, please contact me via the 'Ask a question ' link.
