Those who survive the harsh conditions of the wilderness have little time for small-talk, and so prefer to introduce themselves in simple ways: for example, displaying a trophy they took from a savage beast that made the mistake of crossing their path.

That being said, it’s not usually a good idea to question whether or not the person wearing the trophy is the one who necessarily *earned* it, so they can also be a fashion statement.

The Basilisk, the deadliest of reptiles and often called “the king of serpents”, is a formidable predator. At full maturity their bodies can easily measure twenty feet in length, not including the tail: their scaly hide is as tough as iron: they can weigh over a ton and over short distances have been known to outrun even the swiftest of horses. But the Basilisk is not known for its physical might, for its gaze alone is lethal.

Well… yes and no: a little-known fact about the Basilisk is that *all* of its bodily fluids – blood, saliva, even their waste – are highly toxic. Their infamous “Death Stare” is the result of a Basilisk ejecting venomous tears at a chosen target, rather than ending them with just a stern look. That may *sound* amusing, but it’s still lethal; additionally, traces of the beast’s venom linger in these trinkets, glowing in the dark and shining bright in the presence of Arcane power.

Those who wear trophies of a fallen Basilisk are known to be determined survivors, never going into a fight unprepared, but are certainly not known for being *overly* cautious. They went up against a Basilisk, after all.
