Those who survive the harsh conditions of the wilderness have little time for small-talk, and so prefer to introduce themselves in simple ways: for example, displaying a trophy they took from a savage beast that made the mistake of crossing their path.
That being said, it’s not usually a good idea to question whether or not the person wearing the trophy is the one who necessarily *earned* it, so they can also be a fashion statement.
This was taken from a fallen Ogre, likely a Chieftain (who else in the tribe could possibly afford private dental work?). The largest of the goblinoid species, Ogres have a reputation for being slow-witted brutes, and while many of them fit this description quite well, one who rises to become a Chieftain certainly doesn’t lack for intelligence, as many Adventurers have learned too late.
Those who wear trophies of a slain Ogre are known to be capable fighters who command respect even from avowed enemies.
