This chip is made from a burr from a beech tree that was felled due to disease. The chip pictured is the chip you will receive. It’s a real 1-of-1, so to speak. It has a rich and complex grain with a chaotic, swirling structure in sandy, amber and rich brown hues. It’s approximately 8cm long by 2.5cm wide.
Each comfort chip is hand-selected, hand-cut, hand-shaped and hand-sanded to a shiny polish. We make our chips from a wide variety of woods including pines, evergreens, oak, yew, beech, ash, or whatever we find that gives an interesting grain and a fine surface. Every piece is unique, but carries the same features of curved corners and straight edges for busy digits to explore. We cut by saw and sand down the surfaces using rasps and files before finishing with sandpaper up to 5000-grit. This is all by hand, so the final polish isn’t perfect so we include a small square of sandpaper with every order so owners can polish to their own satisfaction! The only machines we use is a sander for the overall shape and a laser engraver to personalise.
