Measuring 11″ x 8.5″ , this pet portrait was created using pastel pencils on pastelmat paper , especially designed to hold multi-layers of pastels.
Using only archival, professional quality materials to produce the rich colours, tonal gradation and fine details , sourced from manufacturers and suppliers who hold FSC Certificates as well as environmental and sustainable policies.
After initially drawing the dog onto the paper, I proceeded to work on each part of the portrait in turn, starting with the eyes, then ears, nose, body, going back over each area, building colour and tone to create definition and form of the dog, putting in details as I worked, finishing off with the whiskers and final touches.
