This card depicts the same corner of Old Swan, Liverpool as Winter — the same bedroom window view, the same specific geography. A different season. A different kind of seeing.

The old Blockbuster Video store stands in full summer colour, its frontage vivid against a deep blue sky. The ash trees on the grounds of Allenby Square nursery are heavy with leaf, partially hiding the church tower behind them. In winter, that tower is clearly visible; in summer, the foliage closes in. The elm on Elms House Road stands as before. The clock tower of the old Walton Hospital holds its place on the horizon.

The same view. A different light. The same losses — the nursery demolished, the trees cut down, the Blockbuster long gone, the whole panorama replaced by retail units.

Winter is bare and open; Summer is full and half-concealed. The two pieces together hold the complete picture of what was there.
