Summer Goddess Tapestry Kit
A Summer Goddess Tapestry cushion, wall hanging or picture kit to embroider using Victorian Cross Stitch. Follow the Colour and symbol chart in Anchor Tapestry wool on canvas.
In 2005, I was approached by Traquair House to create a collection of tapestry kneelers. My brief was to look around the House and choose images and embroidery to inspire new designs.
The Summer Goddess was inspired by the Ceiling Painting depicting a fertility goddess in the Upper Drawing Room at Traquair House. This design is one of a set of four which also includes Goddess designs for the other seasons of Winter, Autumn and Spring.
Further details were inspired by the amazing embroideries on display at Traquair House including Stuart Petit Point and Jacobean slips.
The complete Traquair House Chapel Needlework Collection is on view in the chapel and was embroidered by community stitchers to celebrate the 900th anniversary of Traquair House. Traquair House is a uniquely wonderful place to visit, once there, you will fall in love!
The design is sewn dramatically in rich colours on a sky blue background with soft dusky pink swirls.
The Goddess Designs all have season relevant flora and fauna. Winter has robins perching in amongst the winter foliage and Summer has lots of flowers, butterflies and a few birds inspired by embroideries of a chaffinch and a woodpecker.
This design and would be enjoyed by all levels of experience. Sewn using Victorian cross stitch, no need for a frame.
This Animal Fayre Designer Tapestry kit contains everything you will need to make it. There’s loads of wool, a pattern folder, wool organiser cards to keep everything neat and safe.
For beginners, I have included detailed instructions and my contact details in case you need more help!
There’s an excellent, high quality chart which shows you exactly where to place your stitches, even better, you can share the chart with friends when you have finished your beautiful needlework!
There are a few handy extras such as an organza wool bag and a couple of organiser card to keep your wools tidy and ready for when you will need them.
I’ve popped in two needles so you have a spare.
