Spirit Shards were said to be able to capture a departing spirit at the moment of death, and that such spirits could be released only by those highly skilled in Dark Magick.
The Elemental Shards, though, do not answer to a mortal calling: any Spirit powerful enough to awaken the light of an Elemental Shard has also the power to bring themselves back, but only if all five Spirits – Flame, Water, Earth, Air and Aether – are in harmony.
