When the world was younger and magick still flowed unchecked through the lands, one of the most feared and awe-inspiring creatures one might ever behold was the Dragon. Immense creatures, capable of both wondrous grace and terrible wrath.
Some folk believed that Dragons were born with evil in their hearts, and were not to be trusted. Thus began the days of the Dragon Slayers.
As their numbers dwindled and the Slayers grew in strength and boldness, the Dragons that remained knew that they would require agents among the mortal folk to do their bidding, sometimes in secret, sometimes with less discretion: to that end was formed the Dragon’s Pact; in exchange for their lifelong servitude and unyielding loyalty to their Draconic masters, these mortals would receive powers beyond the scope of their ordinary peers:-
Those bound to the Red Dragon were granted great physical strength and resilience, insight into their enemies’ tactics in battle, and the ability to resist the harmful effects of fire and smoke.
Those bound to the Blue Dragon were granted keen senses, knowledge of survival in the wilderness, and enhanced resistance to harmful magicks.
Those bound to the Green Dragon were granted great charisma, knowledge of the motives of those around them, and the ability to resist the effects of any poison.
Those bound to the Black Dragon were granted great stealth, knowledge of disguise and subterfuge, and the ability to resist the harmful effects of corrosives.
Those bound to the White Dragon were granted enhanced dexterity, knowledge of camouflage, and the ability to resist the harmful effects of the cold.
Though the Dragons are gone now, these talismans remain, worn by those whose ancestors swore oaths of fealty to those great and terrible creatures: but take care, for to wear such a thing is to invite the ire of the Hunters, heirs of the Dragon Slayers.
