Photos sell handmade work more than anything else on the page. This guide covers what the site accepts, what makes a photo work, and how the Media tab lets you manage everything you have uploaded.
What you can upload
- Images as JPG, PNG, GIF or WebP. PDFs are accepted too, for things like care sheets.
- There is no tight size cap on the website, but keep each photo under a few megabytes so your pages load quickly. Around 2000 pixels on the longest side is plenty. The seller app caps uploads at 10MB.
- The main image is what shoppers see in search results and collections, so keep the item centred with a little space around it.
Main image and gallery
On the product form the Featured Image is the main photo and Gallery Images are the extra ones shoppers scroll through. Aim for three or more; just by doing this it will significantly improve your Listing Health score.
What makes a good photo
- Daylight, near a window, no flash.
- A plain background for the main image. Save the styled shot for the gallery.
- Something for scale: a hand, a mug, a coin.
- One close-up of the texture or the detail you are proudest of, and one of the item in use.
- Photos of the actual item you make. Stock images, watermarks, blurry shots and heavy filters are the most common reason a listing is sent back for changes.
The media library
The Media tab lists every file you have uploaded. Filter by Images or Documents (PDF), search by name, Upload New adds files here without opening a product.
Click a file and File Usage tells you where it is used: the products or shop settings it appears in, or “This file is not currently used”. That makes it safe to clear out old photos.
Deleting a file
Delete Permanently cannot be undone. If the file is still in use you will see a warning that deleting it may break images on your products or shop. Replace the photo on the product first, then delete the old file.
Photos for your shop page
Your cover banner and logo are set under Settings, then Store. The banner works best at 1600 by 800 pixels and the logo at 600 by 600. See Your shop page.
