1. About Crafters Market UK

Crafters Market UK (“CMUK”, “we”, “us”, “our”) runs an online marketplace at crafters.market. The marketplace lets independent vendors sell handmade and creative goods to customers.

CMUK is a marketplace platform. We do not make, sell, or ship products ourselves. We connect buyers with independent vendors who handle their own sales.

By using our website, creating an account, or making a purchase, you agree to these Terms of Use. Please read them carefully.

2. Our Role as a Marketplace

When you buy something on CMUK, you are buying directly from an independent vendor, not from us.

Each vendor is responsible for their own products, prices, descriptions, stock, dispatch, and customer service. The contract for the sale of goods is between you and the vendor.

CMUK provides the platform that makes the sale possible. We are not the seller of items listed by vendors, but we do take responsibility for keeping the platform fair, safe, and easy to use.

3. Your Consumer Rights

If you are buying as a consumer in the UK, you have legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. These include the right to receive goods that are of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described, and in most cases the right to cancel an online order within 14 days of receiving it.

Nothing in these terms takes away or limits those rights. Where a vendor’s own returns policy is more generous than the law requires, the vendor’s policy applies.

4. Accounts

You may need an account to buy or sell on CMUK.

When you create an account you agree to give accurate information, keep your login details secure, and let us know if you think your account has been used by someone else.

We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms or misuse the platform.

5. Orders and Payments

All payments on CMUK are processed by Stripe, a regulated third-party payment provider. Your card details are handled by Stripe and are not stored by us.

When you place an order:

  • Payment is taken at checkout.
  • Funds are received into CMUK’s Stripe platform account.
  • Funds are then passed to the relevant vendor’s connected Stripe account in line with Section 6 below.

CMUK collects payment as agent for the vendor for the purpose of settling the order. We deduct our commission and any applicable fees before passing the balance to the vendor.

CMUK does not run a bank account, e-money wallet, or stored-value service. We only hold funds briefly to make the payment work.

6. Vendor Payouts

This section applies to vendors and sets out how and when we pay you.

6.1 When funds become eligible. A payout becomes eligible once you have marked your part of an order as complete and the order is in a payable state. For physical goods this includes providing valid tracking information. Digital orders do not need tracking. The eligible amount is worked out under Section 7.

6.2 Requesting a payout. You can request payment of an eligible payout at any time from your vendor dashboard.

6.3 Automatic request. If you do not request a payout yourself, we will request it on your behalf once it has been eligible for the period shown in your vendor dashboard (currently 3 days). You do not need to do anything for this to happen. We may change this period by updating your dashboard.

6.4 Settlement timing. Once a payout has been requested, it is scheduled for transfer after a short processing window shown in your dashboard (currently 24 hours). After that window, the payout transfers to your connected Stripe account automatically. We do not hold back routine payouts at our discretion beyond the periods set out here.

6.5 Review and risk holds. We may put a payout on hold only where this is reasonably needed to:

  • look into suspected fraud, error, or unauthorised activity;
  • comply with the law, our payment provider’s requirements, or a request from a regulator or law enforcement; or
  • manage a clearly identified risk, for example unusually high-value orders without tracking, a vendor’s first payout, or very new vendor accounts.

If we put a payout on hold, we will tell you, and where it makes sense to do so we will explain why. We will release held funds as soon as the issue is resolved. Holds will not be used to delay legitimate payouts beyond the time reasonably needed.

6.6 How payouts are made. Payouts go by transfer from CMUK’s Stripe platform account to your connected Stripe account. You need to keep a valid, verified Stripe account with payouts enabled. We are not responsible for delays, failures, or holds caused by Stripe or by incomplete or inaccurate account information. Failed transfers may be retried automatically.

6.7 Currency and records. Payouts are made in the currency of the order. A record of each payout, including what was deducted, is available in your vendor dashboard.

7. Fees, Commission and Deductions

Before transferring funds to a vendor, CMUK deducts from each payout:

  • platform commission at the rate that applies to that vendor, which may vary by membership level and is shown in the vendor dashboard or subscription plan;
  • the vendor’s proportional share of payment processing fees charged by Stripe, calculated as a percentage of plus a fixed amount per order, as shown in the vendor dashboard; and
  • any other charges agreed with the vendor.

Fee and commission rates are shown in vendor dashboards or subscription plans. They may vary by membership level and may be updated from time to time.

If the net amount after deductions is zero or negative, no transfer is made and any shortfall is handled under Section 9.5.

8. Shipping and Fulfilment

Vendors are responsible for:

  • shipping items within their stated handling times;
  • giving accurate shipping costs at checkout;
  • making sure items comply with UK law.

CMUK is not the carrier and does not handle delivery. Where a vendor fails to deliver or where an item arrives damaged, the customer’s rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply against the vendor.

9. Returns, Refunds, Disputes and Recovery

9.1 Returns and refunds. Returns and refunds are governed by the vendor’s own returns policy and UK consumer protection law. If you have a problem with an order, please contact the vendor first.

9.2 Our help. CMUK can help with communication or escalate a payment issue. We do not guarantee refunds and we are not responsible for vendor decisions unless the law requires us to be.

9.3 Refunds after payout. If a customer is refunded after we have already paid the vendor, we can recover the refunded amount from that vendor.

9.4 Recovery method. We will first try to recover refunds by reversing the relevant Stripe transfer. If that is not possible we may try again or recover the amount by deducting it from the vendor’s future payouts.

9.5 Set-off and negative balances. Vendors agree that we may set off any amount a vendor owes us, including refunds, chargebacks, fees, commission, and any amounts recovered under this section, against any current or future payouts due to that vendor. We may carry forward an unrecovered balance as a deduction against later payouts. We may choose to waive recovery of small amounts. If we cannot recover the amount from payouts, it remains payable by the vendor on demand.

9.6 Chargebacks. Card chargebacks and payment disputes raised through Stripe are handled in the same way as refunds under this section, including recovery from the responsible vendor.

10. Vendor Responsibilities

Vendors must:

  • give accurate product descriptions and images;
  • comply with all laws that apply to their products, including product safety, labelling, and consumer law;
  • fulfil orders promptly and within stated handling times;
  • handle customer communication professionally;
  • keep an accurate, verified Stripe account so that payouts can reach them.

We may suspend or remove vendors who breach platform rules or who harm customer trust.

11. Prohibited Items and Conduct

You may not use CMUK to list, sell, or promote items that are illegal, unsafe, counterfeit, or that infringe someone else’s intellectual property. You also may not use the platform to harass other users, send spam, or interfere with how the site works.

We may remove listings, suspend accounts, and report serious matters to the relevant authorities.

12. Intellectual Property

The website, our branding, and the platform software belong to CMUK or our licensors.

Vendors keep ownership of their own product content but give us permission to display it on the marketplace and use it to promote the platform and their listings.

13. Privacy and Data

We handle personal data in line with our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect, how we use it, and your rights under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Please read it alongside these terms.

14. Limitation of Liability

We take our responsibilities as a platform seriously. At the same time, there are limits to what we can be held responsible for as a marketplace rather than a seller.

To the extent the law allows:

  • We are not responsible for the quality, safety, or legality of products sold by vendors. That responsibility sits with the vendor.
  • We are not responsible for vendor actions, omissions, or failures.
  • We are not liable for losses caused by third-party providers such as Stripe and delivery services, or for technical issues outside our reasonable control, including delays or failures in payouts that arise from those providers or from inaccurate vendor account information.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability where the law does not allow it. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, and for breach of your statutory rights as a consumer.

15. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or end your access to CMUK if:

  • these terms are breached;
  • we detect fraud or harmful behaviour;
  • we are required to by law or by our payment providers.

If a vendor’s account is suspended or closed, any eligible payouts owed to them remain payable, subject to our rights of review, set-off, and recovery under Sections 6 and 9.

16. Complaints

If something has gone wrong, please email us at [email protected] and tell us what happened. We will look into it and aim to respond within 5 working days.

If you are a consumer and we cannot sort out a dispute between us, you may also be able to use an alternative dispute resolution provider. We will tell you which providers are available if it comes to that.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law or in how the platform works. The current version will always be on this page with the date it was last updated. If we make a significant change, we will let active users and vendors know.

Continuing to use the platform after a change means you accept the updated terms.

18. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales.
