You do not have to leave Etsy to sell somewhere else. Most makers who open a shop with us keep their Etsy shop running and add a second home with lower fees and a UK audience. The hard part used to be retyping every listing. Our Import from Etsy tool does that for you: you download one file from Etsy, upload it here, and your listings arrive as drafts with their photos, ready to check and publish.
This guide walks through the whole thing, including what comes across, what does not, and how to run both shops without selling the same piece twice.
What you need before you start
- A Crafter’s Market shop on Plus or Premium. The import tool is part of those plans. Plus is £5 a month or £45 a year for up to 100 products; Premium is £10 a month or £100 a year with no product limit. Neither charges commission. Compare the plans.
- Stripe connected, so you can be paid. It takes about ten minutes, and our Stripe guide tells you what to put in the boxes that trip people up.
- Your Etsy listings file, which the next step covers.
Step 1: download your listings from Etsy
In Etsy, go to Shop Manager, then Settings, then Options, then the Download Data tab. Under “Currently for Sale Listings”, click Download CSV. It takes about a minute and saves a spreadsheet to your computer.
The file contains your active listings: titles, descriptions, prices, quantities, tags, materials, SKUs and links to your photos. Nothing on Etsy changes when you download it. It is a copy.
Step 2: upload it to your dashboard
In your Crafter’s Market dashboard, go to Products, then Import from Etsy. Drop the CSV onto the page or choose it from your computer. Each file can be up to 2 MB and 500 listings, which covers almost every shop. If yours is bigger, split the file and import it in two goes.
Step 3: check the preview
Before anything is created, you see what we found: how many listings are in the file, how many you have already imported (those are skipped, so it is safe to run the import again), and how many fit within your plan. If the file has more listings than your plan allows, the preview says so before you start, and you can choose to upgrade or import the first ones.
If some of your Etsy listings use variations, such as sizes or colours, the preview tells you. Those arrive as simple listings, and you add the options while reviewing them.
Step 4: import as drafts
Click Import as drafts. The import runs in the background, about ten listings at a time, with the first batch straight away and the rest following every quarter of an hour. A shop of 100 listings takes a couple of hours. You can close the page and carry on with your day; imported listings appear under Products with the Draft status as they arrive.
For each listing we bring across the title, description, price, quantity, SKU, up to 13 tags, your materials (added to the description) and up to five photos.
Step 5: review each draft before you publish
Nothing goes live until you publish it, which gives you the chance to set the things Etsy’s file does not include. For each draft:
- Choose a category. Ours are different to Etsy’s, and the right category matters for search.
- Add attributes. Colour, Material, Occasion, Pattern and Size power the filters shoppers use. A listing without them disappears the moment someone filters. Our guide to attributes explains which to use.
- Set postage. Pick a shipping profile or set a price on the listing.
- Set the dispatch time. “Ready to ship in” is a promise to the customer, so be realistic, especially for made-to-order pieces.
- Add variations if the Etsy listing had them.
- Add more photos if you had more than five on Etsy. Three or more photos make a real difference.
- Read the description once. Etsy’s file is plain text, so you may want to add paragraph breaks.
Then publish. You can publish one at a time or work through the list in an evening.
What does not come across
Being honest about the limits saves surprises:
- Reviews and sales history. These belong to Etsy and cannot be moved. Your new shop starts fresh, and reviews build as customers order. A few early orders from your own followers help.
- Sold-out, expired and draft listings. Only active listings are in Etsy’s file.
- More than five photos per listing. Add the rest by hand.
- Digital files for downloadable products.
- Your shop banner, About section and policies. Write these once in your shop settings. It is a good moment to refresh them.
Running both shops without double-selling
Selling in two places is easy until a one-off piece sells in both on the same afternoon. A few habits prevent it:
- List one-offs in one place, or move them between shops as you choose where to feature them.
- Keep made-to-order pieces open everywhere. You make them when they are ordered, so there is nothing to oversell.
- Hold back a little stock. If you have five, list four here and four there, and update both when one sells.
- Check both dashboards daily in the busy season. Our seller app sends a notification for every order.
You do not have to charge the same price in both shops. Etsy does not require it, and with no commission on Plus and Premium, some makers price slightly lower here. Others keep prices the same so returning customers never feel short-changed. Either is fine.
Telling people where to find you
Share your new shop link in your Instagram bio, your newsletter, your business cards and your craft fair signage. Do not use Etsy messages or Etsy listings to send Etsy buyers elsewhere. Etsy’s rules on fee avoidance do not allow it, and it is not worth risking your Etsy shop.
Is it worth it?
On a £20 sale with £3.50 postage, a typical Etsy sale leaves you £19.98 once fees and VAT on them are taken off, and an Offsite Ads sale leaves £15.74. On Plus or Premium here you keep £22.95, before the monthly plan. Our guide to Etsy fees in the UK has the full breakdown, and our marketplace comparison covers Folksy, Not On The High Street and the rest.
Does importing change anything in my Etsy shop?
No. The file you download from Etsy is a copy of your listings. Your Etsy shop, listings and reviews stay exactly as they are.
Can I import on the free Basic plan?
The import tool is part of Plus and Premium. On Basic you can still list up to 10 products by hand, and you can upgrade at any time when you are ready to bring a whole shop across.
How long does the import take?
The first ten listings arrive straight away and the rest follow about ten every quarter of an hour. A shop of 100 listings takes a couple of hours, and you do not need to keep the page open.
What if I run the import twice?
Listings you have already imported are recognised by their SKU, or by their title if there is no SKU, and skipped. It is safe to import an updated file.
Do my Etsy reviews come across?
No. Reviews belong to the marketplace they were left on. Your Crafter’s Market shop builds its own reviews as orders come in.
