This is a lovely story which is great to show the importance of being kind. The children noticed how bossy Holly was at the beginning of the story so it was great to start a conversation on how and why she should be nice and how we should think about how our friends feel when we treat them in this way.
The shell gives the story a magical and fun twist to the book and the children enjoyed seeing how it taught Holly to be nice. We might not all have a magical shell around like Holly’s but we can definitely all learn from her mistakes which is great! The importance of kindness is shown beautifully in the story and particularly after she’s learnt a lesson from the other creatures nearby.
The illustrations are brilliant and are lots of fun with all the colour and sea creatures to look at. I particularly liked how we can see all of the emotions so clearly on each of the characters faces as this helped the children understand how each of them were feeling and how Holly’s behaviour could influence someone else’s mood. The children’s favourite picture to look at was definitely the last page though, they enjoyed seeing everyone happy and were hoping that they’d make friends.
This is a brilliant story that is great to show why we should always be kind and how our attitude and behaviours can effect others. Holly’s story is great to encourage readers to be a kind friend.

Items should be with you within 2-3 working days of me sending them, however once posted delivery is out of my control and delays are experienced at times. I am naughty to review this yet, as it hasn’t arrived, but my young cousin is going to love it. I may even be lucky enough to read it to her myself. Such a lovely looking book, and unusual in that it involves seashore creatures.
