Why We Only Use Stripe (And Not PayPal)

Last updated on March 4, 2026

We completely understand this question — it comes up a lot.

So here’s the clear and honest answer.

The Important Bit: Split Payments

Stripe allows what’s called split payments (also known as marketplace payouts).

That means:

If a customer buys from 3 different vendors in one basket, the system can:

  • Take one payment from the customer
  • Automatically divide the money
  • Send each vendor their portion

This happens seamlessly in the background.

Without this, customers would need to:

  • Checkout separately for every vendor
  • Make multiple payments
  • Receive multiple confirmation emails
  • Pay potential duplicate transaction fees

That creates friction — and friction loses sales.

Why Not PayPal?

PayPal does not offer the same split payment functionality in a way that works cleanly with our marketplace system.

Without split payments, we would have to:

  • Restrict customers to buying from one vendor at a time
    or
  • Manually process and divide funds (which is not scalable or secure)

Neither of those options serves our vendors or customers well.

Fees Matter Too

Stripe’s transaction fees are typically lower than PayPal’s.

Lower fees mean:

  • More profit staying with vendors
  • No unnecessary cost increases
  • A more sustainable marketplace model

It’s genuinely a win for everyone.

What This Means for You as a Vendor

Using Stripe means:

  • You get paid automatically
  • No waiting for manual transfers
  • No chasing payments
  • Customers can buy from multiple shops at once (which increases basket size)

This isn’t about limiting options.

It’s about choosing the system that works best for a multi-vendor marketplace.

We Understand Preferences

We know some people personally prefer PayPal.

But as a marketplace, we have to choose the system that:

  • Works technically
  • Supports multiple vendors
  • Protects customer experience
  • Scales as we grow

And right now, Stripe is the platform that does that.
