Description
Hi, Thanks for looking at my nursery lamp. I was inspired to make this item by a friend who told me about all the generic “personalised” lamps being offered on other sites and how there were very few original options available.
I started with a small prototype, about the size of a larger coaster, to help me work out where best to place all the items that I wanted to feature on the lamp, I then scaled this up to the final size that you see here. If you are interested this measures a Height of 32cm a width of 29cm and a Depth of 4cm.
Once I had scaled the lamp up to what I deemed to be an appropriate size, I then got all the pieces cut out using a laser cutter, each piece was sanded and sealed before I hand painted each one with the vibrant colours you can see in the pictures. This took multiple coats as I wanted to ensure that each piece looked as nice as possible. The light from the lamp is provided by a small AA battery powered module, which gives of a nice selection of different colour soft lights, this can be controlled with an infra-red remote control. once the light module was fited I felt like something was missing and decided to use Vellum paper to cover the light appertures (this is like coloured tracing paper). This made the lamp look great even when the lights were turned off.
I designed the lamp to be free standing on a desk, but it could just as easily be mounted on the wall, although its fairly big, a bit larger than a football, its very light.
I really enjoyed making this, all in I estimate this took me about 30 hours to make and it has given me some great ideas on what I can make next!!
