Description
This museum quality model has been hand built by me and represents a New York pilot boat that was in service in the 1850s.
Apart from some metal fittings the model is built entirely from wood with cordage used for the rigging. The model has been wood stained, painted and vanished.
The finished model is what you would expect to see displayed in a museum and would make an excellent interior design piece for the home or office.
The hull is built on wooden frames or bulkheads which are covered with individual strips of would to represent the hull planking. This style of building was how the original ships were built. Each strip of wood on both the hull and deck are applied singularly by hand.
The rigging is all tied by hand.
The deck fittings such as the hatches and cabin are all made by hand.
All wood staining, painting and varnishing is by hand.
The flag is authentic and represents the United States as it was in the 1850s.
The model also has a stand for display purposes.
An authentic copy of a ship of the time.
